We're Off to Round Top, Texas!

This weekend and next week Texas holds the biggest antique festival called the Marburger Antique Festival in Round Top, Texas. Yes, it's in the middle of nowhere....but who cares, everything in Texas is in the middle of nowhere! Four giant tents that could strecth over a football field, five big top tents, twelve vintage buildings, food court, a lake and 27 acres set aside for parking. That's why they say "Everything's Bigger in Texas"!!! 400 vendors from 39 states! I think I might pee my pants I am so excited! Carolyn and I will be down there Friday -Sunday. Don't worry....well document our trip and post as soon as we can. I have already told my husband I'm taking his big truck down there so I can stack as many pieces of furniture in there as I can.

Etsy Item!--- Recipe Holder (or photo holder)

I came across this neat Etsy item from Etsy seller Motherstresures. It's a fork turned into a clip. She only had one to sell (but I am sure she will have more later). I hope to buy more from her and use a couple of them in my new office to hold wedding invitations, business cards, party invites, photos.....you name it. Kind of cool..huh?

Majolica

One of my favorite things to collect is Majolica pottery. My mom has been collecting for quite a few years now......her collection is far better than mine. However, I am slowly but surely adding some really neat pieces here and there. I buy most of mine on Ebay but you can look around in antique shops and you are sure to find some. If you don't know what Majolica is, click here and read about it in Wikipedia. I have also pasted a couple of my favorite pieces to collect below.
I love all of the Majolica pitchers you can find. This one is a rare find that I saw on Ebay. I love the beautiful bird.
This is another pitcher I found on ebay. The pitchers always have so much detail on them. I love collecting these and grouping them together on my bamboo shelf I have.
This piece is called a Begonia Leaf Cake Platter. I love these!

These are some of favorite to collect. Gurgling Fish. They are called this because of the sound they make when something is poured out of their mouths. They come in all different colors....green, blue, yellow, red. This one here is multi colored which are the hardest to find. From I am told, you can tell if these multi-color ones are real or not by the color in their mouth. Real majolica fish have pink mouths!

A lot of Majolica carries a chinese feel to them like these plates. These are called Wedgewood plates.
This is another Begonia Leaf. It's not a platter or a plate....it's called a pickle dish. I have about 4 of these in pink, blue, brown, and green. I display them with a plate stand or they can be hung on the wall.

D Home Magazine- Custom Made

(images courtesy of D Home)

In the March/April edition of D Home, I found myself enthrawled by the article custom made. It features Dallas Art Maven Betty Blake's home. Every piece she owns is cutom made just for her. Look at all the beautiful funky patterns that flow so well with each other. It's like a candy store with all the different colors!

Everyone in Dallas knows about Forty Five Ten

Can we say..L-O-V-E! Fashion, Jewlery, Apothecary, Home Decor.....and a cafe! I could spend all day in her if I had a million dollars. If you live in the area and haven't been, put it on your list of THINGS TO DO BEFORE I DIE! And if you are in the Big D, it's a must for a pit stop.

Why you should RUN to High Fashion Home

(image courtesy of High Fashion Home)

Wanted to share my great find at Houston's own High Fashion Home. If you live anywhere in the greater Houston area I HIGHLY recommend checking this place out! Not only is it 4 floors of incredible contemporary furniture with a classical twist (think Anthropologie with no clothes and on steroids!) they have walls and walls of upholstery fabrics. Practically everything at this store can be customized but expect to pay a pretty penny!

check it out online! http://www.highfashionhome.com/

Fab Find: The Sale Floor!! Level 3 of High Fashion Home has a huge area dedicated to all things discounted! I got the chair below for $300.00 (it was originally almost $700.00)!

Emery Cie: Fish & Face Scissors

I just love these cool old world looking scissors with faces on them. What I love most is how they displayed them in this photo. The small scissors are about $38 USD and the large ones are $57 USD. Not only are the scissors cool from Emery Cie, but check out the rest of their stuff!

PB Ledges

Let me start out by saying I try VERY hard to stay clear of Pottery Barn. For the most part I find their stuff to be totally over priced BUT I will say these ledges are a really nice way to add a quick architectural element to a small space and alleviating the need for a heavy piece of furniture for display. I am thinking of using them to show off my cookbooks or possibly my "good" china in the dining room.

needlepoint isn't just for grandmothers...

i'm really into needlepoint right now. I found the most adorable needlepoint pillow of a pig (perfect since that's my cats name) at Olivine (see post below) and I can't get enough! Check out these fantastic pillows from Johnathan Adler

I want to wear that bird as a fabulous hat! enjoy and goodnight!

Lets get right to it... shall we?

First up on my list of many exciting things to come is the sweetest little store in Houston's Uptown Village called Olivine. Its filled with everything from french linens to yummy candles and body sprays like Kai, an oh so yummy blend of magnolias and vanilla... a southern belles dream! Don't forget to check out their very interesting antique European map collection!

Fab Find: A set of magnets fashioned after vintage European postcards! Set of 20 for around $20.00
